A Video EEG is an examination that records a patient’s brainwaves on an EEG and a video of what is occurring simultaneously.
The purpose of a video EEG is to be able to see what is happening when a patient is experiencing a seizure or event and compare the footage to what the EEG is recording at the same time.
A video EEG records live events, allowing the neurologist to determine whether the patient’s symptoms correspond to the brain’s electrical activity.
A video EEG is very helpful in determining if seizures with unusual features are actually epilepsy, to be able to identify the type of seizures, and to locate the region of the brain where seizures begin.
