EMG

Electromyography (EMG/NCS)

Electromyography, or EMG, is a diagnostic test used to assess muscle health and the nerves, or motor neurons, that control them.

Electrical signals that cause the muscles to contract are transmitted through motor neurons. An EMG is able to translate these signals into various values including graphs, sounds or numerical values that a specialist interprets.

An EMG may use small sensors known as electrodes or a needle electrode that is inserted directly into a muscle.

EMG results can help determine if there is any nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission.
