Independent Medical Examination
An Independent Medical Examination, or an IME, is a specific type of test that may be performed by a neurologist.
An IME provides an accurate assessment of a patient’s medical status, often following an injury. The patient’s records and X-rays are reviewed by the neurologist, the patient’s history is reviewed, and an examination is performed.
During an IME, treatment options are not discussed or advised. Instead, the neurologist will prepare a comprehensive analysis describing the nature of the symptoms or problems that the patient may have. This may aid in determining the types of care that the patient needs.
